Titan Fields by Exhale-NL Titan Fields by Exhale-NL
To begin this description I want to let you all know that I'm gonna give more info than usual from now on. If you're not interested, plz scroll back up again to view the image or scroll down to comment on this piece (which I would realy appreciate ). I do suggest you read it tho...

Titan Fields

I made this piece for Oxygenetic's latest pack, Sublimal. I realy didn't know what to make for this new pack so I was thinking... Thinking back of that movie Titan A.E., since I saw that movie I always wanted to create something inspired by/based on that movie. I opened up Cinema 4D and started something.
When I was done rendering I was suprised (yes I realy was) by the quality of the render. From then I started to brush like a maniac... After an hour of 5 something came out. I look pretty cool, and I showed it to ~secroit and *snakeart. They both helped me alot, but still after they did, this piece didn't look finished.
The next day I started again. It needed lighting and some special effects. That's what I did next, I placed this little space traveler (look ver close to the right side) on one of the floating "balls". After that the lighting was gonna get a touch-up. Which was realy hard by the way. Because I didn't save the .psd I had to work on on a .jpg. The end result was there, Titan Fields...

Looks

Like I said I wanted to make something inspired by Titan E.A.. Seeing what came out and looking back to Titan E.A. these 2 things realy didn't look like eachother, but somehow I could link 'em together. Maybe because of the little space traveler, maybe because of the floating balls, well I don't know.
Anyways, I wanted to go for an original look. Grunge-Abstract is what I want to call this. I realy like this alot, I hope you do as well. The lighting is basicaly the same as always.
O one last thing. Some people asked me the question: "Do you brush all these little details?!?". The answer? Nope... Well not 100%. The way I do these little details (see Chronicles 3 & 4) is by finding a stock image, copy it into photoshop and making it the right size (most of the time very small). Then I just simple brush on it with the black and white brush. After that I delete the original image and voilŠ...

Story

I can come up with a little story here, but I don't want to this time. Since it's inspired by Titan E.A. I'm just going to give you the story of that movie. See if you like it, suggestions are always welcome .

Final Words

I hope you like this new piece, I hope you're going to check out the new Oxygenetic pack (see my frontpage for details), I hope that you all read this description and liked it and of course I hope you're going to comment. I know I took alot of your time but still... Advance Critique is Encouraged, so please give it . Thanks.

I like how you have yur 'artists comments' set up, wish more artists would do that, gives more 'life' to the art i think. I thought Titan A.E. was a great story and the piece fits it well, just wish it was larger more wallpaperlike?

Don't say that, just say you don't like it. In every piece I make I try the best to make it look original and to give it a good meaning. If you don't like my style just say that, don't say this isn't as good as my other work...

I am very surprised by the concept and the time you took on this piece. the first glance at it was okai, but after I read the story and looked more closly at this, I found it interesting and really impressive.

The render, hehe, at first I thought just some other organic, but soon I noticed you dont really see that everyday, a lot of details and textures on the render, looks somewhat hidden in the darkness. Very Titan-ish. I like the brushing a lot more though, the direction of lighting on this is awesome, you choose teh angel very well, everything turned out peacefully and nicely. Very awesome atmosphere, I love the cold yet mysterious environment. What I loved teh most was teh little structure and the person looking part on the rock on the right side of teh piece. Whoa, teh little person looks like a construction worker, or some kind of supervisor for the machine. maybe it's the UFO or maybe it's teh oil pumps. I don't know, but definitely amazed by the details of those 2. Colors are very nicely done, give off the soft and calm feeling of the piece. Overall it's lovely.

One thing though, I think the noisy looking starfield on some part of the brushing...well uhh not really found of that, it's okai but I think it kind of takes away the focus and the calm atmosphere of the piece. and maybe more textures on the brushing and a bit more misty would help. Just my 2 cents, not much.

great piece for oxygenetic.

Great job Exhale, surely a wonderful piece :) The only thing I see a lil off in my opinion is that the mist/brushing you create feels as if its inside of the rocky chamber and that the long somewhat horizontal spike of the render has the mist over it. If you were to erase the mist thatís over the spike it would look like the mist is more in the cave like :) Still a great piece and I hope I didnt confuse you.

a few questions. when you make these, are the models in c4d really huge? or they are moderately sized and you photoshop them to make them look like a huge cave?
Another thing that i am pondering is whether you make these models within a tube shape and model the inside using nurbs or whatever?

Answer if you have time. Or just submit a model :P Thanks man.

The render has a great sense of scale, and that is enhanced by the details on that rock type area on the right. There doesn't seem to be much of a focus on the render though, just randomly placed details dotted around. Nice misty brushing effects and atmospheric colours. :)

first of all, awesome. (i couldnt think of another word to describe it)
the detail is just great, like always. the stockphoto thing is a handy tip. u got some nice focal over there, not too bright, just perfect :) the lightning that comes out of it really fits. the only thing i'm not so sure about is the little fella and he's hut. it looks like the dust is everywhere around the 'ball' where the house is placed, but not around him, or his house (hey, it could just be me seeing crossed because of my hangover :(). the rest is just very nice, the typo is very good. i like the leafs on the side of the line :) the renders are great all over again :) nice and tentacled.

u did a great job again exhale :) keep it up! my fav is yours.
